[ad_1] Omicron Variant Cases and Deaths in India Live, Covid-19 Booster Vaccine Registration Latest Update: Amid the rise in Covid-19 infections and the growing number of Omicron cases, India is all set to begin vaccinating children in the age group of 15 to 18 from today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Dec 25, 2021 announced that the vaccination for the 15-18 year olds will begin from January 3, 2022, while the administration of precautionary third dose for the vulnerable categories will begin from January 10, 2022. Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan had informed all state governments that only Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin will be administered to the beneficiaries in 15-18 age bracket and additional doses of Covaxin will be sent to all States and UTs. Karnataka’s health department has announced that it plans to vaccinate 31.75 lakh children when the drive to vaccinate children begins today. “The State has targeted 31.75 lakh children in the 15-18 age group. On day-one, we plan to vaccinate six lakh-and-odd in more than 4,000 sessions,” the department said in a statement, reported news agency PTI. Meanwhile, Delhi on Sunday recorded 3,194 infections to its Covid-19 tally with a positivity rate of 4.59 percent. However, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal urged the people not to panic as most of the patients were either reported to be asymptomatic or had very mild symptoms and did not need hospitalisation. Maharashtra’s health department on Sunday informed that the state recorded 11,877 new Coronavirus cases and 50 Omicron infections. Maharashtra also reported nine fatalities on Sunday, which increased the overall toll to 1,41,542. Karnataka registered 1,187 new Covid-19 cases and six deaths on Sunday. The health department in its bulletin said that 275 people were discharged, taking the total number of recoveries to 29,60,890 while the total active cases stood at 10,292. Keeping in view the rapidly spreading Omicron variant, a few states imposed stricter curbs on Sunday as a precautionary measure. The West Bengal government said that it would restrict flights from New Delhi and Mumbai, to just twice a week. In a press conference, Chief Secretary HK Dwivedi also announced that only essential services will be permitted to operate between 10 pm and 5 am in the state till January 15th. The Rajasthan government has also put a cap on the number of people attending political and other rallies, dharnas, fairs and weddings at 100 and has ordered closure of schools in Jaipur city for classes 1 to 8. The decisions were taken at a Covid review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, news agency PTI reported. [ad_1] While most of calendar year 2021 was focused on revival of businesses, amidst this focus on getting back to normal, companies continued their investments in upskilling and reskilling their workforce. Neeti Sharma, president & co-founder, TeamLease EdTech, shared with FE that, in 2021, investments in upskilling saw 18-25% increase. Sectors where these investments have gone up are IT, e-commerce, logistics, BFSI, pharmaceuticals, edtech and industrial engineering, among others.“Companies are not only upskilling for technical/domain-specific skill sets but also for soft/communication/behavioural skills,” Sharma said. “In fact, for senior leadership/managerial roles, the focus was more on improving emotional intelligence.” While on one side companies acknowledged the importance of investing in skilling, 2021 also made blended learning more acceptable. “Skilling was largely anchored by digital learning platforms and these interventions improved the learning process by 15% and also improved learner participation by 20%. Gamified learning and AI and machine learning become more prevalent in the skilling process,” Sharma added. “In 2022, investments in skilling will further grow by 12-15%. The pandemic has taught employers the importance of having a multi-skilled workforce with interchangeable skills, and hence the efforts towards upskilling will be stronger in the coming years.” At the same time, there are certain challenges that need to be addressed to scale upskilling. “Majority of companies, close to about 75%, still prefer traditional classroom model of skilling,” Sharma said. “There is a lack of robust digital infrastructure in the country. There needs to be focused investments in this arena, as digital is the way forward and digitally-integrated blended learning makes learning accessible, cost-effective and interactive.” She added that to further boost the skilling ecosystem, we also need policy reforms like inclusion of vocational skills in elementary/HEI education, more universities coming forth to provide degree apprenticeships (on-the-job learning) and relaxation in UGC guidelines for blended learning. I’ve found that I struggle to stick with that list because I always find so many other books I want to read and that initial list makes me feel kind of guilty that I’m not following through. Instead of trying that approach again, I’m experimenting with something different in 2022: I’m going to set monthly reading goals. At the beginning of the month, I’ll pick a stack of books I want to read that month and I’ll focus on reading those books throughout the month. This way, I can make room for the many new or new-to-me titles I discover throughout the year. Plus, I can pick fewer books to read on the months that I know there is a lot going on. My Book List for January Here is my book list for January and why I chose each title. (Note: Inclusion on this list does not mean I am recommending or endorsing the book as I haven’t read it yet! Fighting Forward I appreciated Hannah Brencher’s book, Come Matter Here, and have had this book on my shelf waiting to be read for a number of months. The Flirtation Experiment It’s be awhile since I’ve read a marriage-related book and this looked like a good one! We celebrate 19 years of marriage in January and I can always use a refresher and encouragement! They Call Me Mama This title was suggested by Katie Reid and I’m excited to read it. From what I understand, it’s about a family who said yes to stepping out in faith and opening up their home to a number of children who needed a family. Also, I think that any mom who is raising 14 kids probably has a lot of wisdom to share! Bloom A friend encouraged me to read this book as it’s the story of a mom who gives birth to a baby with Down syndrome and her honest first year of processing this unexpected news — grieving, learning, and finding joy in it. I’m halfway through it and have thought a lot about Baby D’s mom and what it must have been like for her to find out her son had Down syndrome after he was born. It’s given me a lot more empathy and compassion for her and many other moms who have walked and are walking a similar road. The Story of You I’ve really benefited from Ian Cron’s other books so was very interested in reading this one. I’m a few chapters in and learning a lot… though I have some disagreements with some things, too. (What’s new??!) Win the Day I love so many of Mark Batterson’s books and have gleaned a lot from them, so I’m looking forward to many takeaways from this book! The Woman They Could Not Silence This book was chosen by Sharon Says So on instagram for her recent book club. I wasn’t part of the book club, but the title intrigued me. I’ve read a few chapters so far and am not sure what to think, but I’m anxious to read the rest! Every day after lunch, I read aloud to Kierstyn and Baby D before their nap time. We read a few picture books and review our ABC Memory verses and then read 5-10 pages from a chapter book plus one chapter from The Jesus Storybook Bible. This month, we’re reading Dancing Through the Snow — a book that someone gave me thinking we might enjoy it because it’s about foster care. I’m curious to see what I think of it. Audiobooks I Plan to Listen To I love to listen to fiction audiobooks while I’m cooking, cleaning, or driving. I get all of mine for free on Hoopla or Libby. This month, I am planning to listen to The Way it Should Be and The Paris Library — both that came highly recommended from some of you! What are you planning to/hoping to read in January? Cineline India Ltd (part of Kanakia Group), is re-entering the film exhibition business in Q1FY23 (under a new brand) through nine properties with 23 screens. PVR had acquired 135 Cinemax movie screens in 2012 for Rs 3.95 bn. Out of this, 23 screens were owned properties of Kanakia Group, which PVR had leased till March 2022. Since lease is coming to an end and the non-compete clause has ended, PVR will lose these screens to Cineline. The impact on PVR will be negligible: 2% on Ebitda. In our view, the multiplex industry is essentially a duopoly, and we do not anticipate any significant ramp up by non-core players. Event and rationale of re-entry: It is surprising to see Kanakia Group re-enter given: (i) they earlier felt the multiplex industry is a game of consolidation; (ii) they wanted to focus on core business of real estate and hospitality. They were present in the film exhibition business for 15 years through the ‘Cinemax’ brand. In 2012, the company had sold its multiplex business along with the Cinemax brand to PVR and had leased out nine properties with 23 screens to PVR in Mumbai, Thane, Nashik, and Nagpur. In light of weakening industry dynamics for the unorganised and single-screen players, there is a tremendous opportunity for organised players to take the market share. Limited impact on PVR but Maharashtra is number one market: PVR currently has 158 screens in Maharashtra and a total of 855 screens. So these 23 screens will account for ~3% of its total screens and 14% of its Maharashtra screens. However, it is important to note Maharashtra is India’s largest market for films; so PVR will need to ramp up to come back to its dominance in this market. [ad_2] Source link
