[ad_1] The Government of India has recommended a ban on 54 Chinese mobile applications, including the Singapore-based Garena Free Fire, citing that these applications pose a threat to India’s security. The list also includes names such as Beauty Camera: Sweet Selfie HD, Beauty Camera – Selfie Camera, Music Plus – MP3 Player, Video Player Media All Format, Isoland 2: Ashes of Time Lite, Rise of Kingdoms: Lost Crusade, Viva Video Editor – Snack Video Maker with Music, Tencent Xriver, Onmyoji Chess, Onmyoji Arena, AppLock, Wink: Connect Now, FunChat Meet People Around You, among others.  Interestingly, the government had banned 59 apps with links to China on June 29, 2020 to ensure the safety and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace, including names such as TikTok, Shareit, Clash of Kings, Likee, UC Browser and Shein. These apps were banned under section 69A of the Information Technology Act after the government found them “prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order.” The main concern was the collection of user data and the unauthorised sending of this data to locations outside of India. [ad_1] West Bengal Municipal Election Result 2022 Live Updates: Counting of votes is underway for elections to municipal corporations of Bidhannagar, Asansol, Siliguri and Chandernagore in West Bengal today. The voting for the four municipal corporations was held on February 12. Over 72 per cent of voter turnout was recorded in the polls. The voting was largely peaceful, barring a few incidents of skirmishes. While over 72.02 per cent voter turnout was recorded in Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation, Siliguri, Asansol and Chandernagore had recorded around 72 per cent turnout. Altogether 953 candidates are in fray from the municipal corporations of Bidhannagar, Asansol, Siliguri and Chandernagore. As many as 203 candidates are contesting in 41 wards in Bidhannagar, while 200 are in the fray in 47 seats of the Siliguri civic body, as per the SEC website. There are 120 aspirants for 33 wards in Chandernagore, and 430 candidates are contesting in 106 seats in Asansol. On the voting day, BJP candidates Subhasish Das and Biswajit Mondal in Siliguri were detained by the police for their alleged involvement in creating problems outside polling booths. While the BJP leaders had accused TMC of casting fake votes using outsiders, the TMC has remained unfazed and is looking to clean sweep the polls. Trends on SGX Nifty indicated a gap-down start for Indian equity markets, with a loss of 216.50 points or 1.25 per cent. The Nifty futures were trading around 17,137.50 level on the Singaporean Exchange. Asian shares slipped in early trade tracking weak US markets. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan dipped 0.2 per cent, while Japan’s Nikkei lost 2.1 per cent. Meanwhile in the US, S&P 500 futures edged up 0.2 per cent and Nasdaq futures 0.1 percent after steep losses on Friday. Indian benchmarks indices on Friday snapped three-day winning momentum to end lower.
