[ad_1] Amid concerns over children getting infected with coronavirus as schools reopened, health experts said there was no need to panic they mostly have mild illnesses and recover with just symptomatic treatment. They, however, stressed that the children who are eligible to get vaccinated against Covid must get the jab. The health experts said consistent and appropriate use of masks, implementation of a standard protocol for sanitisation and hand washing are the key pillars of Covid-appropriate behaviour. “There is no need to panic as data from past waves have clearly shown that children, even if they contract COVID-19, have mild illness and recover spontaneously with just symptomatic treatment,” AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria told PTI. Therefore, eligible children should take the vaccine. But then even those who have not been vaccinated should not panic as chances of them getting a severe infection is very low, he said. Dr Chandrakant Lahariya, a physician-epidemiologist and public health specialist said, “We need to remember that the (news of) children contracting Covid is getting some attention because schools are open. “However, even when schools were closed an estimated 70 to 90 per cent of children had already got the infection as we know through various seroprevalence surveys.” It is known that children are as susceptible to SARS-CoV-2 infection just like adults. But COVID infections among children are mild and mostly asymptomatic, he asserted. This situation has not altered with the emergence of any subsequent variant. Even with new variants children continue to be at low risk. There is no reason to be concerned about some reports of a few children testing Covid positive in a few schools, the doctor said. “At this stage of the pandemic, empowered with scientific and epidemiological knowledge and understanding, COVID-19 infection should not be a concern. The outcome of the infection should be criteria for decision making,” Dr Lahariya said.Additional Director General of ICMR Samiran Panda pointed out that global evidence suggests schools as “non-drivers” of Coivd transmission in the community. Consistent and appropriate use of masks, implementation of a standard protocol for sanitization and hand washing must be practised by students and school staff alike, he said. While masks are not recommended for children under five years, six to 11-year-olds may wear a mask depending on their ability to use them safely and appropriately. Those aged 12 years and above should wear masks under the same conditions as adults, Dr Panda said. He stressed that schools should ensure the indoors are well-ventilated and air conditioners should be avoided. Exhaust fans should be installed in classrooms to curtail the potential spread of infection. Also, children should be advised against sharing meals and spending long hours in canteens or dining halls.There is ample evidence to suggest that children aged 1-17 years have similar susceptibility to a mild form of COVID-19 as adults, he said. “However, the risk of severe disease and mortality among children is much less compared to adults,” Dr Panda said. Dr Nameet Jerath, Senior Consultant, Pediatric Intensive Care, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi said that all the children who are eligible for Covid vaccination should be encouraged by their parents for getting inoculated. “Covid vaccines are important for the children (based on the eligibility criteria) to build an immunity against the virus. Parents need to note that any child who has a reported history of Covid should wait for at least three months, post the infection for taking the vaccination,” the doctor said. Also, parents should consult a paediatrician before vaccination if a child is allergic to any medication. Post-vaccination, mild fever and pain in the arm can be reported but that can be treated by paracetamol, only if required. A child should not be given paracetamol before vaccination, Dr Jerath said. [ad_1] Pakistan’s Parliament is set to meet on Saturday to appoint former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf as the new speaker and take up a no-confidence motion against deputy speaker Qasim Khan Suri for acting in favour of the previous government led by Imran Khan. Ashraf, 71, from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will be given the oath of office after he was deemed elected as no other candidate on Friday submitted nomination papers against him till the 12-noon deadline. The office of the speaker fell vacant after Asad Qaiser resigned on April 9 after failing to implement a decision by the Supreme Court verdict to hold a no-confidence vote against ousted prime minister Khan. Ashraf, who previously served as the prime minister of Pakistan, and was elected after the office of a speaker was given to the Pakistan Peoples Party – the leading partner of the current coalition government. The National Assembly would also take up the no-confidence resolution already moved against Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party member and Deputy Speaker Suri, who is currently functioning as the acting speaker. Just before the election of Shehbaz Sharif as the new prime minister of Pakistan on April 11, ousted prime minister Khan’s party lawmakers decided to resign from the National Assembly. Khan’s PTI on Thursday announced that Suri had accepted the resignations of 123 MNAs and the National Assembly (NA) Secretariat had also issued a notification in this regard. The PPP and the PML-N alleged that Suri had put pressure on the National Assembly Secretariat to accept the resignations. The members of the National Assembly on Friday received a circular from Additional Secretary of Legislation of the NA Secretariat Muhammad Mushtaq informing them that the motion for leave to move the resolution for removal of the deputy speaker from the office would be taken up on April 16. The National Assembly Secretariat has already issued a four-point agenda which contained voting on the no-confidence resolution and the oath-taking of a new speaker. The parliament will also elect a deputy speaker once Suri is removed. Shahida Akhtar Ali of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl, another coalition partner, is said to be among the front runners. [ad_1] Much has been written about the decline in the numbers of active real estate appraisers creating a chokepoint in the mortgage process. But another talent crunch has been brewing at the same time in the title industry. It’s a similar story that we’ve seen play out with appraisers — the title and escrow industry is aging out and attracting new talent has been a challenge. As we move into 2022, this challenge will not see an immediate solution, but the problem will get solved, in time, and here’s how. First, we have to start simple. How do we solve the problem of attracting new entrants? The solution lies in embracing technology to address this growing gap in title and escrow hires. If you look around the title insurance industry, there’s a decade gap in the ages of the industry’s talent pool. In other words, you have people like myself who have been in the industry for multiple decades, and then you have up-and-comers — the oldest group of up-and-comers right now is in their early fifties. The challenge of relying on an older workforce is that it presents the unpredictability of retirement within this age group. According to a report by the U.S. Bureau of Labor, the participation rate for workers aged 65 to 74 will grow to 30.2% in 2026 — compared with 17.5% in 1996. For workers 75 and older, the participation rate in 2026 is projected to be 10.8%, compared with 4.7% in 1996. The other side of this problem is that most people aren’t intuitively familiar with title and escrow, so creating a buzz for this industry for a younger generation becomes all the more difficult. Nobody actually ever hears about the title industry until they buy a home. So we have a situation, and this has always been the case, where we rely on people essentially stumbling into title and escrow because it’s simply not on the radar for most as a career choice. It’s key to remember, however, that the industry has always struggled to attract new talent for the reasons I mention above. This isn’t a new problem, but the unprecedented growth in new originations and refinancings in the last two years has highlighted the struggle of attracting talent or scaling operations to meet the market’s demand. Couple that with the changing way we’ve done business because of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, and it has made recruitment all the more challenging. There has been a natural shift for homebuyers to desire a more digitized experience and that has challenged this aging industry to pivot. Title companies may want to evaluate their technology and make upgrades to meet the digital needs of the next generation of title professionals. The emphasis, particularly on the escrow side, should be on technology. A digital transformation will not only impact day-to-day work — at scale — but better digital processes will also streamline the closing process and transform the real estate transaction. We are seeing the most successful players in the industry adopt digital solutions. Despite the challenges of acquiring new talent in the face of a rising labor shortage, title companies are well-equipped to attract new talent with the enticing possibility of joining an industry on the cusp of massive change. How far will digitization go? There’s one school of thought that believes you can go all the way, but I think it is being oversold, particularly when we look at the title side of the industry. Title has been really slow to incorporate technology. One reason it’s been slow to adjust is because of the varying regulatory environment companies operate in. For example, business practices and regulatory oversight vary in every single state. Now having said that, lenders have likewise been regulated differently, as have Realtors. That makes it unlikely we will have a uniform process anytime soon because these underlying regulatory issues, underlying databases and business practices evolve differently. And this is what needs to change. Maybe we won’t get there in 2022, but we can’t bear to repeat the lack of technology that backlogged our pipelines during the pandemic.
