Despite being widely used, it has managed to stay simple and has retained much of its original features as they were a decade back. Being a messaging platform, it primarily allows you to connect with others. You can share images, videos, GIFs, contacts, locations, etc. Over time, it has expanded to include features such as video calls and even payments. Throughout the Covid pandemic, the platform played a big role by not just helping us stay connected with others but also streamlining work as the virus forced offices to shut down. By now, you might think you have exhausted all its features. But what you might not know is that the platform comes with some discreet features, using which can make your experience easier. Let’s look at some of them one by one: Text formats To add some zing to the boring WhatsApp texts, you can bold, italicise them or add strikethrough, just like you do in Microsoft word. Using this feature is simple. To bold, insert an asterisk (*) before and after the text, and to italicise, insert underscore (_) in a similar way. And for strikethrough, insert twiddle (~). Star texts There are texts you want might want to refer to later, chats that can carry a deep message, an image, a contact, or a link. You can save them for later by adding a star. To do so, long press on the message and tap on the star at the top. To go back to your Starred Messages, go into the Menu bar on Android and Settings on iPhone. Know your WhatsApp BFF Do you want to find out with whom you talk the most on WhatsApp? Just head to WhatsApp Settings, Storage and Data, Manage Data. A list of most interacted with contacts will appear. You can also tap on the individual contacts for more detailed statistics. Make texts vanish At times, you might want certain texts to automatically disappear without having to manually erase them. You can do so by tapping on the contact. Next, tap on the name, followed by pressing Disappearing Messages’ and selecting the time after which you want the texts to get automatically deleted. Custom notifications Won’t it be easy if you know who texted you before having to look on the phone? Good news, you can do so by adding custom notifications for individual chats. If you are an Android user, open the individual chat, click on the menu bar, then click on Custom notifications. iPhone users, open the chat, click on the name, and tap on Custom Tone. Mute a chat While heading for a meeting or an important event, you would want to mute a chatty group or a friend. WhatsApp allows you to do so. Android users just need to long-press the chat following by clicking on the crossed-out speaker option. iPhone users can do so by swiping left the conversation followed by Mute. Hide chat While you cannot technically hide a chat, you can archive it to not receive notifications or see it in your usual conversations. If you are an Android user, long-press the chat and press on the archive option right next to the three-dot menu bar. iPhone users need to swipe left and click on the archive icon. Disable autosave of images, videos All the images and videos you receive get automatically saved in your phone, messing up its space. To disable that option, open Settings on your Android phone, go to Chats, and turn off the Media visibility option. iPhone users can open their Settings, followed by Chats, and turn off Save to camera roll. Disable blue tick A blue double tick allows someone to know you have seen a message. Although a useful tool, it can pressurise you to reply at the earliest. Hence, to turn it off, go to Settings, followed by Accounts, click on Privacy, and turn off the Read Receipts option. Check if someone has blocked you The first indication that someone has blocked you is that you’ll not be able to see his/her profile picture, status, and last seen. To confirm, send a text. If a single tick persists forever, it means you have been blocked. Use on desktop Generally, you cannot use many of the apps on the desktop. [ad_1] In a midnight order, the Punjab and Haryana High Court said stayed the arrest of Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, directing Punjab Police to not take any coercive action against the BJP leader till May 10. Bagga had moved the high court on Saturday challenging the arrest warrant issued against him by a Mohali Court earlier in the day. The matter was mentioned before the Chief Justice Ravi Shanker Jha who agreed to list the case on an urgent basis. The late-night hearing of the plea was held at the residence of Justice Anoop Chitkara in Chandigarh. The high court will next hear the case on May 10. The arrest warrant was issued by the court of Judicial Magistrate Ravtesh Inderjit Singh, relating to a case registered against Bagga on charges of making provocative statements against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, promoting enmity and for alleged criminal intimidation. “Whereas Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga…stands charged with the offence punishable U/Sec 153-A, 505, 505 (2), 506 IPC, you are hereby directed to arrest the said Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga and to produce him before me,” the judge said in the order in a direction to the officer incharge of the police station, state cyber crime. The Punjab Police had filed an application before the Mohali court for an issuance of the arrest warrant against Bagga. It submitted before the court that there was neither any stay on the arrest of Bagga nor any anticipatory bail application was moved by him. Police also submitted that Bagga failed to appear before it despite the issuance of notices to him.Police also claimed that the Delhi Police got the accused released “forcibly and illegally.” Bagga was arrested by the Punjab Police from his Delhi home on Friday, stopped in Haryana while being taken to Punjab and brought back to the national capital by Delhi Police hours later. The Delhi Police had on Friday registered a case of kidnapping based on a complaint by Bagga’s father Pritpal Singh Bagga that “some people” came over to his house at around 8 am and took away his son. Friday’s dramatic developments saw police forces of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi getting into a tussle over Bagga while triggering a political slugfest.The Punjab Police had booked Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga on the charges of making provocative statements, promoting enmity and criminal intimidation. The case was registered on a complaint of AAP leader Sunny Ahluwalia, a resident of Mohali. The FIR registered on April 1 referred to Bagga’s remarks on March 30, when he was part of a BJP youth wing protest outside the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Bagga was booked under relevant sections, including 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place etc), 505 (whoever makes, publishes or circulates any statement, rumour or report) and 506 (criminal intimidation), of the Indian Penal Code.  The Punjab Police has maintained that a police team had gone to Delhi to arrest Bagga after he did not join the investigation despite serving five notices to him. After its team, which was bringing Bagga from Delhi, was stopped in Haryana, the Punjab Police moved the high court and filed a habeas corpus petition. The Punjab government Saturday moved two applications before the Punjab and Haryana High Court here, seeking the Centre be made a party in the case, and that the May 6 CCTV footage of Janakpuri and Kurukshetra police stations be preserved.  The Punjab government has alleged that its police personnel were “detained” at Janakpuri and Kurukshetra police stations when they had gone to arrest Bagga in connection with a case registered against him at Mohali last month.  [ad_2] Source link

[ad_1] Capital markets regulator Sebi has constituted an advisory committee for advising on ESG (environment, social and governance) related matters in the securities market. The committee will be headed by HDFC Mutual Fund Navneet Munot, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) said in a statement. Apart from Munot, the committee has experts, including R Mukundan, MD and CEO of Tata Chemicals; C Siva Kumar, executive director of NTPC, Amit Talgeri, chief risk officer at Axis Bank, Sharad Kalghtagi, ESG head Cipla; Amit Tandon founder and MD Institutional Investor Advisory Services; J N Gupta, founder and MD of Stakeholders Empowerment Services and Rama Patel, Director of Crisil Ratings. In all, the committee has 19 members and further, four Sebi officials will be secretariat to the committee as well as co-ordinator. The terms of reference of the committee include enhancements in business responsibility and sustainability report, ESG ratings and ESG investing. With regards to enhancements in Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report (BRSR), Sebi said the panel will be responsible for reviewing leadership indicators that may be made essential – including those related to value chain and developing sector specific sustainability disclosures. Also, it will review evolving disclosures / metrics that are relevant to the Indian context and identify areas for assurance and roadmap for its implementation. In addition, the committee will be examine developing separate or parallel approach for ESG rating adapted to emerging market like focus on ‘S’ including employment generation. This will also include developing uniform indicators of ‘G’ as input to ESG ratings and or credit ratings disclosures in the rationale by ESG rating providers on what and how qualitative factors were factored in the ESG ratings or observations. In respect of ESG investing, Sebi said the committee will oversee continuous enhancement of disclosures specific to ESG Schemes of mutual Funds with particular focus on mitigation of risks of misselling and greenwashing. “The evolution of standards and norms for ESG is a dynamic process which necessitates continuous evaluation,” Sebi said. [ad_1] By Rashi Randev As the West continues to maintain diplomatic and economic pressures on Russia, India continues to keep its firm stand on the Ukraine issue while maintaining its strategic autonomy.  It has been consistent in its advocacy of diplomacy and dialogue and has not violated the parameters established by international law and the United Nations charter. The upended global order and the current geopolitical realities have pushed the realisation for the need to build strategic partnerships and Prime Minister Modi’s recent visit to three major European countries-Germany, Denmark and France clearly indicates India’s intent to bolster partnerships and strengthen ties with like-minded allies in Europe and is likely to set the stage for the India-EU summit and a boost in Free Trade Agreement negotiations, which have been ongoing for a decade and a half now. With the continuation of high-level diplomatic visits in the past month, the intensity of engagement has increased in the wake of the war in Ukraine. Foreign ministers from UK, Poland, Portugal, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway among others and the President of the European Commission visiting India have demonstrated India’s increasing significance in the international arena.   Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Germany was an opportunity to boost strategic partnership through prospects of investment, discuss global and regional developments with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and strengthen cooperation between the two countries which have a shared interest in upholding democratic values and safeguarding a rule based international order. It has been 70 years since diplomatic relations were established between India and Germany, which are also strategic partners since the year 2000 but this functional collaboration can only be construed as a green strategic partnership; based on sustainability, science and technology, trade and skill development. Germany is one of India’s most important partners in Europe, with deep bilateral relations, and also because of its key role in the European Union. During the visit the leaders of both the countries chaired the 6th Indo-German Intergovernmental Consultations (IGC), which is a bilateral dialogue with the purpose to take forward the level of cooperation in areas of technology, security, education and climate change. Under Modi’s leadership, India has set a goal to become a global renewable energy hub which includes increasing its non-fossil energy capacity to 500 GW by the year 2030 and deriving 50 per cent of its energy requirements through renewable energy. The goal also includes reducing the carbon intensity of its economy by 45 percent and decreasing the projected carbon emissions by a mark of one billion tonnes till 2030. In addition, India wants to transition towards net-zero by the year 2070 which according to various reports, will require close to 12.4 trillion dollars. To achieve all these projected targets, India requires huge foreign investments for setting up renewable industries in India. One of the advantages of IGC was the signing of Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) establishing the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership, which will substantially augment the existing partnership where Germany will fund green projects in India under private, public and PPP models by making an advanced commitment of 10 billion Euros of new and additional development assistance until 2030. After Berlin, Prime Minister Modi visited Copenhagen, where the second India-Nordic summit was held with Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland and Sweden to explore new areas of cooperation; global security, economic growth and climate change. This summit was significant because after the United States, India is the only country which has established such a level of engagement with the five Nordic nations. The Nordic countries are unquestionably the forerunners in health care, clean energy, global technology, education, innovation and digital transformation. India is one the fastest growing economies in the world which in the last few years have represented a GDP growth of 7-7.5 per cent annually, and therefore offer a large market for the Nordic countries to invest in wind energy, water management, shipping and smart cities. This visit was an attempt to expand multifaceted cooperation with the aim to consolidate the bilateral ties through the Green Strategic Partnership between a strategic potential partner such as India and the Nordic Nations, amidst the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Modi’s visit to France just days after Macron’s victory in the French elections signifies India’s increasing importance and marks the next phase of the India-France Strategic Partnership. The conversation with France will also be important since it is holding the Presidency of the European Union this year. Both the countries are strategic partners since 1998 and have a multifarious partnership in the field of maritime security, space and defence, counter terrorism, clean energy and environment. India and France share a robust economic partnership “with a bilateral trade of 7.86 billion USD (2020-2021) and cumulative Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) 9.83 billion USD since April 2020”. At present, there are more than thousand French business ventures in India across various sectors and over 150 Indian corporations in France which have employed more than 7000 French citizens. The challenges in the Indo-Pacific is believed to be one of the focus areas of discussion, amid China’s belligerence in the region. In September 2021, the EU put out its first Strategy for Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, delineating its intended involvement in the region and stating that the “futures of the EU and the Indo-Pacific are inextricably linked given the interdependence of economies and the common global challenges.” The EU is the biggest investor and major trading partner for the economies of the Indo-Pacific region, and Europe has vested interests in the region; its strategy needs to engage more to “strengthen its strategic reach and its supply chains,” as any predicaments or setbacks in the Taiwan Strait and the South China sea may have a “direct impact on European Security and prosperity.”  In the future, France will be a strong pillar of the European security structure, through its naval presence and the overseas territories, France is a major Indo-Pacific power; 93 percent of its exclusive economic zones are in the Indian and Pacific Oceans, and the
