4 Ways The Instant Pot Saves Our Family Money

[ad_1] This post may contain affiliate links. Read my disclosure policy here. Have you thought about trying to use an Instant Pot for home cooking? Though it’s a little bit of an investment up front, it might be worth it if it helps you save money on groceries and meals! {Psst! Want to save money on your grocery bill? Sign up to receive my FREE cheat sheet that teaches you 10 Easy Ways to Cut Your Grocery Bill By $50!} Guest post from Sarah of Sidetracked Sarah: I’ve always been a late adopter, so when I continually heard about everyone’s love of the new (at the time) small kitchen appliance called an “Instant Pot”, I was curious, but definitely not planning to get one any time soon. My friends raved about the wonders of the Instant Pot: They told me the food was delicious. They said that it would save me money in the long run. They insisted it saves so much time, too. Being a stay at home mom of seven kids, my interest was finally piqued after months of hearing these comments from friends. I truly needed to save some serious time and money, so I decided to try it! Can an Instant Pot Actually Save Your Family Money? I was definitely surprised by how much money the Instant Pot saved our family right from the get-go! Here’s how…  1. We Don’t Eat Out as Much. If you’ve ever read through the Trim Healthy Mama cookbooks, I’m “Drive Thru Sue”. My seven kids keep me running around and I often don’t take the time to think through dinner early enough in the day to get it prepared. Because of this, I’m constantly hitting the drive-thru. With the Instant Pot, though, I don’t have to rely on the drive-thru. I can throw a frozen pot roast in the Instant Pot or even a big block of ground beef for one of the many Instant Pot ground beef recipes that our family enjoys. I know that if I keep some basic meats and sauces or sauce ingredients on hand, I can make a quick meal that won’t cost me as much as going through the drive-thru or grabbing take out. 2. We Buy Fewer Convenience Foods. We use to make frozen pizzas, hot dogs, and chicken nuggets too often. Now that we have an Instant Pot, we don’t buy the convenience foods nearly as often, thus saving us money each month! 3. We Cook More From Scratch More Often. Having an Instant Pot means we end up cooking from scratch a whole lot more than we used to, which saves us even more on our groceries. It’s simple to make homemade yogurt, rice, boiled eggs, and beans — as well as many other inexpensive meals. 4. It Replaces Many Other Small Appliances. The Instant Pot is an all-in-one appliance that eliminates the need for a rice cooker, slow cooker, and a yogurt maker. It can even count as a skillet if you don’t mind using the Saute function to cook your meat. You can even use it to reheat food, which eliminates the need for a microwave! Our Favorite Instant Pot Recipe I’m often asked what our favorite Instant Pot recipe is. And I think I’d have to go with Chicken Tacos! It’s super simple to make: Add a frozen bag of chicken breast, can of diced tomatoes and green chilies, and a packet of taco seasoning to the Instant Pot. Close the valve and cook on high pressure for 20 minutes. Quick-release the pressure and shred the chicken. Serve in taco shells, over chips, as a taco salad, on quesadillas, etc. The possibilities are endless and it’s SO delicious! We actually have TWO Instant Pots now and I’ve decided I can make just about anything in it! I’ve even taught several of my children how to use it. It is my most used appliance and saves me more money and time than any other appliance in our household by a long shot! Canada’s Best Aeroplan Credit Cards

[ad_1] Now that Air Canada has acquired the Aeroplan loyalty program—and announced that it will be replacing Aeroplan with something new in 2020—we know that Aeroplan-affiliated credit card offerings will be changing in the future, too. In the meantime, Air Canada has promised it will be business as usual when it comes to earning and redeeming Aeroplan rewards points, and for frequent flyers of Air Canada and Star Alliance partners, there are some lucrative rewards credit card offers to consider right now. We’ve selected the best Aeroplan credit cards based on our analysis of fees, points accumulation, redemption structures and flexibility to help get you to your next vacation faster.  The best Aeroplan credit cards in Canada Best overall Aeroplan cards: TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite; CIBC Aerogold Visa Infinite Best for transferable rewards: American Express Gold Rewards Best premium credit card for Aeroplan users: American Express Platinum Best entry-level Aeroplan credit card: CIBC Aero Platinum Visa About the program: Quick Aeroplan FAQ Best overall Aeroplan credit cards TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite* This card offers one of the largest and easiest to achieve sign-up incentives in the market today. On sign-up, users will get 15,000 Aeroplan miles just for making their first purchase, which is enough to reserve a short-haul round trip flight. (Note there’s an annual income requirement of $60,000.) You’ll also have the annual fee for yourself and one additional cardholder waived for the first year. Cardholders receive Visa Infinite protection, including travel insurance, car rental discounts and access to Visa Infinite events across Canada.  Annual fee: $120 (rebated for the first year) Welcome bonus: 15,000 Aeroplan miles when you make your first purchase Rewards earn rate: 1.5 miles for every $1 spent on groceries and gas, at drugstores and on purchases at aircanada.com; other eligible purchases earn 1 mile per $1 spent Additional rewards: Your Aeroplan miles don’t expire as long as you’re a TD Aeroplan cardholder; one annual One-Time Guest Pass to the Maple Leaf Lounge, first checked bag free, priority check-in, and priority boarding when travelling on a reward ticket Get more details about the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite* CIBC Aerogold Visa Infinite CIBC’s Aerogold Visa Infinite is similar to TD’s offering, down to the earn rate (it even has the same $60,000 annual income requirement). What really makes this card worthy of consideration is its welcome offer. New cardholders will get 15,000 miles for making their first purchase, followed by 5,000 miles if you spend at least $4,000 per month within your first three months. Plus, if you have a Premium Banking Bundle with CIBC, you can get the card included without the additional $120 annual year cost. Cardholders who travel out-of-province are protected against trip interruption and cancellation insurance, coverage for collision or damage when they rent a car, and also receive medical insurance. Annual fee: $120 (rebated for the first year) Welcome bonus: 10,000 Aeroplan miles on first purchase, plus an additional 5,000 miles if you put at least $5,000 in purchases within your first four months Rewards earn rate: 1.5 miles for every $1 spent on grocery, gas, drugstores, and purchases at aircanada.com; other eligible purchases earn 1 mile per $1  Additional rewards: Access to priority check-in and priority boarding with your Aeroplan Flight Reward when travelling with Air Canada; complimentary first checked bag with your Aeroplan flight reward when travelling with Air Canada; one Maple Leaf Lounge One-Time Guest Pass each year to access Maple Leaf Lounges with your Aeroplan flight reward when travelling with Air Canada. Best for transferable rewards American Express Gold Rewards Card Unlike TD’s offering, the American Express Gold Rewards Card earns you American Express Membership Rewards points, which you can then transfer 1:1 to Aeroplan miles for flight redemptions on Air Canada and Star Alliance partners. This attracts people who want flexibility around where to redeem their points and who also understand that Amex is accepted less widely than some other cards. Those who do choose to use this Amex card can take advantage of its higher earn rate, since it offers up to 2 Membership Rewards on everyday purchases. It’s worth noting the American Express Gold Rewards is a charge card, which means that unlike other credit cards, you’ll need to pay off its balance in full every month. Annual fee: $150 Welcome bonus: 25,000 Membership Rewards (must spend $1,500 within the first 3 months) Rewards earn rate: 2 points for every dollar on eligible travel, gas, grocery and pharmacy purchases, 1 point for every dollar on everything else Additional rewards: Front of the Line access for concerts and other ticketed events; up to $100 USD hotel credit on qualifying hotel amenities charged to the room, such as dining, spa services and golf; comprehensive American Express travel insurance and purchase protection plan Note: this is a charge card, so you’re required to pay off your balance in full every month. Best premium credit card for Aeroplan users American Express Platinum Card This is American Express’ premium offering, ringing in at a hefty $699 annual fee. Like the Gold card, you can transfer AMEX Membership Rewards points one-to-one to Aeroplan, but comes with Priority Pass and Centurion Lounge access, alongside a generous $200 annual travel credit (essentially reducing your annual fee to $499), hotel upgrades, and a 50,000 point sign-up bonus if you spend $2,000 in the first three months of membership. The American Express Platinum is a charge card, which means you’ll need to pay off its balance in full every month, unlike the Aeroplan Visa cards on this list. Annual fee: $699 Welcome bonus: 25,000 Membership Rewards (must spend $2,000 within the first 3 months) Rewards earn rate: 3 points per dollar on eligible dining, 2 points for dollar on eligible travel, 1 point for every dollar on everything else Additional rewards: Front of the Line access for concerts and other ticketed events; Priority Pass and Centurion Lounge access; $200 annual travel credit; hotel membership upgrades; comprehensive American Express travel insurance and purchase protection plan
