Coronavirus March 28 News: Even as India and scores of other countries resume the international travel after the waning Covid wave, the pandemic is showing new surge in the China and some nations of Europe. In fact, China’s Shanghai has imposed lockdown spooking trade markets around the globe. What’s the latest about Covid in India and how China is fighting the worse outbreak since Wuhan crisis? Shanghai, the financial hub of China, has entered lockdown after days of speculation. The city of 26 million will see 2-stage lockdown starting from today. In stage 1, the city’s vehicular movement has been restricted. In stage 2, a mass testing will be conducted, the local officials say.
Shanghai has reported over three thousand cases. These symptomatic cases account for 70 per cent of the total caseload of China.
This latest outbreak is not only putting pressure of the world’s second largest economy but also spooking the global supply chain management and crude oil sector.
In the US, which is seeing new spurt in daily coronavirus cases, White House White House Deputy Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has tested positive for Covid-19 infection. She had travelled with President Joe Biden to Europe recently. However, she was not in close contact with POTUS.
In Europe, Italy, Germany and France are reporting high number of daily cases. While Italy reported nearly 60,000 cases on Sunday, Germany reported nearly 70,000 new infections today. France is also reporting marked uptick in weekly hospitalisations.
In the latest medical news related to Covid vaccine, Pfizer–BioNTech’s corona shot is said to have lowered the mortality rate among senior citizens by 78 per cent. The latest data was published in a study from Israel.
National health data from South Korea shows that since past seven days, the country has seen significant decline in daily Covid cases for the first time in last two month. Many feel that the Omicron wave has peaked in South Korea. However, health officials say that the country will continue to see high number of hospitalisations and Covid deaths in coming days.
Back home, India recorded another low in daily Covid infection tally today. The health ministry’s data says that 1,207 new cases were detected across India in the last 24 hours. In terms of Covid fatalities, 31 people died due to coronavirus infection, the government records show.
Ahead of his India visit, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has tested positive for COVID-19. The news was confirmed by his media adviser, a PTI report says. The 50-year-old was set to India trip next month. No official statement has been made so far whether Bennett’s trip has been called off or not.
