[ad_1] Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday made key announcements regarding Covid-19 vaccination in the country amid the growing number of infections and Omicron cases. The PM announced that India will soon start vaccination for children in the age of 15-18 year from January 3, 2022. Modi, in his address to the nation, also said that the booster doses for healthcare and frontline workers will be administered from January 10. In addition, those above 60 years of age with comorbidities will also have access to the “precaution dose” after their respective doctor’s advice. The PM also stated that, Nasal vaccine and world’s first DNA vaccine against Covid-19 will also be soon available for inoculation. Keeping in mind the rising number of Covid-19 infections and the rapidly spreading Omicron variant, Modi urged the people not to panic and to be cautious while celebrating the New Year festivities. “Many people in India have also been found to be infected with omicrons. I would urge all of you not to panic be careful and alert. Wash masks and hands briefly,” he said. The Prime Minister highlighted the fact that following all measures and guidelines, will definitely prove to be a weapon against Coronavirus. “Covid-19 experience of fighting the global epidemic so far suggests that following all guidelines at the individual level is a great weapon to compete with corona. And the second weapon is vaccination,” he said. Modi also stated that more than 141 crore doses have been administered in India and more than 90% eligible population has been vaccinated with the first dose of vaccine. The Prime Minister in his address assured the citizens of India that the government was prepared and doing everything possible to tackle the increasing number of infections. He also gave a list of number of beds available throughout the country. “Today, the nation has 18 lakh isolation beds, 5 lakh oxygen-supported beds, 1.4 lakh ICU beds, and 90,000 special beds for children. Today, we have over 3,000 functional PSA Oxygen plants and 4 lakh Oxygen cylinders have been provided to all states,” the PM noted.  “Apart from research on the vaccine, we were also working on approval processes, supply chains, distribution, training, IT support system, and certification. With these efforts, India started vaccinating its citizens on January 16 this year,” he further added. Expert for clear policy on the vaccines to be used for the added dose Experts have hailed the announcement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, December 25th to provide booster vaccine doses to healthcare workers and elderly (over 60 year olds) with comorbidities. Though he has termed these as vaccine doses to be administered as a precautionary measure. “It is good to hear that boosters were announced, albeit limited,” says Shahid Jameel, virologist and fellow, OCIS and Green Templeton College, University of Oxford. However, he added, “What is important is a clear policy on what vaccines would be used as boosters.” Jameel, who is also a visiting professor at the Ashoka University in India, has been maintaining and writing that there is need for India to come up with a clear policy on booster doses and on vaccinating children.  The Prime Minister also announced that starting January 3rd , children in the age group of 15 to 28 years would also be inoculated. Dr Jameel and other experts have been seeking clarity on which vaccines are to be used and the number of doses. [ad_1] Amid a surge in Omicron Covid variant cases here, Delhi on Saturday recorded 249 fresh coronavirus cases, the highest single-day rise since June 13, and one death while the positivity rate mounted to 0.43 per cent, according to data shared by the city health department. On Friday, 180 cases were recorded with an increased positivity rate of 0.29 per cent, according to officials figures. The daily case count on Saturday jumped to 249 with further increased positivity rate of 0.43 per cent, according to the latest health bulletin.This rise is the highest since June 13 when Delhi logged 255 COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 0.35 per cent, while 23 deaths were also recorded on that day. The positivity rate recorded on Saturday was also the highest since June 9 when it had stood at 0.46 per cent, according to official data. The spike in fresh cases in the span of last few days here is being recorded amid a jump in cases of new Omicron variant of Covid in Delhi A total of 415 cases of Omicron variant of coronavirus have been detected in India so far, out of which 115 have recovered or migrated, according to the Union Health Ministry’s data updated on Saturday. Maharashtra has recorded a maximum of 108 Omicron cases, followed by Delhi at 79, Gujarat 43, Telangana 38, Kerala 37, Tamil Nadu 34 and Karnataka 31.Earlier this month, Health Minister Satyendra Jain had said that the Delhi government was closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation here arisen out of the Omicron variant of the virus, but he had ruled out possibility of a lockdown in the national capital. The city government already put in place a “graded response action plan”, and it will be implemented accordingly, as and when the cases and positivity rate rise, he said. According to the graded response system, when the positivity rate will reach 0.50 per cent i.e out of 1000 people tested, five are positive, then the first level of this system will be implemented, the Delhi health minister had said, and added, “our efforts should be such that we don’t reach that stage of 0.5 per cent”.The death toll due to the coronavirus infection in Delhi on Saturday rose to 25,104. Six deaths have been reported in December so far in the city. On Thursday, the daily cases count stood at 118 with a positivity rate of 0.19 per cent, while one death was reported. Seven COVID-19 deaths were reported here in November this year, the highest count of fatalities due to coronavirus infection in the last three months in the national capital, according to official data. Delhi had recorded four Covid deaths in October and five in September. A total of 57,295 tests — 52,444 RT-PCR tests and 4,851 rapid antigen tests — were conducted a day ago, the latest bulletin said. The Saturday’s bulletin, however, did not specify the types of variants detected as far as the quantum of cases reported are concerned, neither did it mention whether the number of people testing positive, included those who come from abroad as well. Genome sequencing takes 7-10 days to process a sample, officials had earlier said.While coronavirus cases have registered a rise in the last few days, in markets and other public places, mask and Covid norms-related violations were being reported. Amid a jump in cases of the latest variant in Delhi, doctors had last week cautioned that people should avoid all gatherings and follow Covid-appropriate behaviours, else the pandemic situation may worsen given the highly transmissible nature of this variant of coronavirus. Anticipating a surge in Covid cases driven by the Omicron variant, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday had said his government has made preparations to handle one lakh patients and conduct three lakh tests daily and ensure availability of enough manpower, medicines and oxygen.The number of active cases mounted to 934 on Saturday, from 782 on Friday, according to the bulletin. The number of people under home isolation stood at 464 on Saturday while it was 375 a day before, and the number of containment zones in the city stood at 248, a significant jump from 207 on Friday, the bulletin said. The approval is a positive surprise and is not factored explicitly into our earnings estimates. In the US the Lanreotide depot is available under the brand name Somatuline and there are no generic approvals for the product. Somatuline is approved for the treatment of acromegaly (high production of growth hormone), gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (tumours in gastrointestinal tract). The product has relatively complex API. Lanreotide API is a large peptide molecule and is an analogue of somatostatin. The formulation is relatively simpler (compared to other long acting injectables) as it does not involve polymers or long-acting additives. Cipla has developed the product along with its partners. Cipla’s product is not substitutable to the original product. However, given strong volume growth and lack of competition, this is likely to emerge as a meaningful opportunity for Cipla in the near- to medium-term. As per IQVIA, Somatuline annual sales were at $867 mn (MAT Nov 2021). The volumes are recording mid-teen growth. The company reported that global sales were at $1.3 bn in 2020, growing in mid teens. Ipsen Pharma has introduced a new pre-filled syringe in 2019, and we think the variation in Cipla’s product is primarily related to the syringe. Currently we do not have the details to assess the differences and hence advantages/disadvantages of the formulation. We expect additional competition in due course. However, the competitive intensity is likely to be lower than for most generics. CIPLA’s market share gain can be aided by the fact that the product is administered in clinics (not self-administered) and it is a growing market. Further, being an early-mover, CIPLA is likely to gain a healthy market share over the next 12 months. Assuming 30-50% price erosion and 10-20% market share, the annual sales for CIPLA can be ~$50-75 mn.Assuming 60-65% gross margin (accounting for profit share/royalty with partners), we estimate net earnings contribution of $25-35 mn, which translates to EPS of `2.4-3.1. This is ~6-8% of our FY23F EPS estimate of Rs 39.7. Valuation and ratingWe maintain Buy rating and TP of Rs 1,051, which is based on SOTP methodology: (i) we value the base business at Rs 992, based on 25x FY23F EPS, and (ii) we value the gRevlimid opportunity at Rs 59/sh. The stock currently trades at 21.7x FY23F EPS of Rs 39.7.
