[ad_1] The number of people that would be allowed to attend the Republic Day parade this year would be curtailed by 70-80 per cent to approximately 5,000-8,000 due to the ongoing wave of COVID-19, senior officials of the defence ministry said on Tuesday. Approximately 25,000 people were allowed to attend the last year’s parade. Moreover, the decision on whether chief guests will come or not for this year’s parade is yet to be taken by the Ministry of External Affairs, the officials mentioned. There was no chief guest at the parade last year. Officials said the aim is to keep the people away and maintain social distancing at all times so that the parade should not become a super spreader event. Therefore, the numbers have been significantly curtailed, they added. While the exact number is yet to be decided, it would be anywhere between 5,000-8,000 people this year, they mentioned. People would be encouraged to watch the parade on TV and livestreaming, they stated. [ad_1] A large number of HNIs (high net worth individuals) are proposing to buy property in the next two years, reflecting a strong and decisive turnaround in the luxury real estate segment, reveals a survey conducted by India Sotheby’s International Realty. The survey elicited responses from over 200 HNIs and UHNIs to gauge the mood of the luxury home buyer across India’s top 8 cities — Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, and Goa. Out of the 76 per cent who responded in the affirmative to buying real estate in 2022, 89 per cent said they would look to buy residential real estate vis-a-vis 11 per cent who opted for commercial real estate. This translates to 67 per cent of the respondents wanting to buy luxury homes, going forward. “An overwhelming 67% per cent of respondents said they would look to buy luxury residential real estate in 2022. On the key motivation to buy another property, 46 per cent of the respondents said, the biggest reason for them to buy property in the pandemic years was a lifestyle upgrade. About 31 per cent of HNIs also said the biggest motivation to buy real estate in the last 18 months was ‘a good investment opportunity’, reflecting the emergence of bullish outlook that HNIs have on luxury real estate and their expectation of home prices to rise,” according to Sotheby’s Luxury Housing Outlook-2022. Within the choices of buying residential real estate, a city apartment continued to top the charts with 34 per cent saying they would look to buy a bigger city-based apartment. On the other hand, more than 1/4th of the respondents (29 per cent) expressed their desire to acquire a holiday home. “This remains one of the biggest aspirations for the HNIs, a change we see as significant,” observed Amit Goyal, CEO of India Sotheby’s International Realty. Goyal further said, “The fact that people picked a good investment opportunity as a strong reason for buying luxury real estate points to a bullish outlook on luxury home prices. Unlike some of the developed countries, where the price increase frenzy seems to be cooling off, in India, I believe, we are at the start of a secular price rise. We expect low-rise homes in the thriving urban centers, especially in Delhi NCR and Mumbai, and the vacation home destination of Goa, to be the outperformers of 2022.” As regards the money the HNIs are willing to shell out on another property, the maximum response was received for a luxury city apartment or villa for the price range of Rs 10 – 25 crore with 69 per cent respondents picking this bracket. The sweet spot of pricing for a luxury “holiday home” was between Rs 5 crore and Rs 10 crore with as many as 71 per cent of respondents opting for this price band. About 29 per cent of the respondents were even willing to spend more than Rs 10 crore for the right vacation home. ‘Work From Home’ Findings The survey was completed before the onset of the third wave of Omicron surge, but it clearly showed that the hybrid work model is here to stay. Almost 65 per cent of the respondents answered, they do not see themselves going back to the physical office, all 5 days of the week. “This is a clear indication that the desire to upgrade homes will remain a big motivator in 2022,” the survey found. The extensive survey also revealed that 28 per cent of the HNIs had gone back to the office – full time, prior to the third wave of COVID. Almost half of the respondents though continue to be in a “hybrid” work mode, spending anywhere between 1 and 4 days working from home. Also, about 15 per cent seem to have made a complete switch to “work from home” – which was negligible in India, pre-pandemic. Real estate agents/advisors were the top choices for HNIs when it comes to the source of information for decision-making on buying real estate in India. So far, I’m very excited to say that I’ve already finished four from the stack + two audiobooks and I’m in the middle of reading two others and hope to have them finished next week! YAY! My Honest Reviews From This Week Here are my honest reviews of the the three books I read this past week: Note: You can follow along with the books I finish this year and my star ratings over on GoodReads. Also, books are rated on a 1-5 star scale. I basically won’t finish a book if it’s one star (not worth my time!) and I’ll rarely give a book a 5-star rating unless it was just absolutely amazing or life-changing. Rest, Girl: A Journey from Exhausted and Stressed to Entirely Blessed I’ve loved other books by Jami Amerine, so I was excited about this title — especially because I think we can all use encouragement to rest in the Lord and live less exhausted, stressed lives. However, I just felt like the book had a lot of things I disagreed with theologically or that were really confusing. I also felt like it jumped all over the place and lacked a lot of clarity as to how to live a rested life of trusting in the Lord. There were some good thoughts in it and Jami’s characteristic humor, but I just don’t feel like I could recommend the book based upon my concerns that some of the advice was not something I would agree with theologically or Biblically. Verdict: 2 stars They Call Me Mama: What Happens When We Say “Yes” to God This was the very honest (and pretty amazing!) story of a couple who said yes to God and stepped out in faith to adopt 10 children (in addition to having 4 biological children). I really appreciated hearing their willingness to say yes to things that felt so far beyond their ability and how they shared God’s faithfulness in the hard things. I did find the book confusing in parts. She would reference something that she hadn’t given enough backstory to or clarification for (for instance, she talked about homeschooling but then talked about a child being embarrassed about something at school). But overall, I think the book would be an encouragement to all foster families and adoptive families and those who are considering fostering or adopting — especially if you have a larger family. I especially appreciated her honesty in sharing how hard it is, but how it is worth it, despite the hard. Verdict: 3 stars The Paris Library I have mixed feelings on this book. I enjoyed the historically accurate story of the American Library in Paris that stayed open during World War II (a story I was unfamiliar with it). And I found walking in the shoes of those who experienced what it was like to deal with all of the emotions that the war brought and the hard decisions you had to make really thought-provoking. However, I felt like the story drug on in parts and felt fluffy in other parts. I also didn’t enjoy that some parts bordered on being PG-13 when it came to the romance. It definitely wasn’t my favorite World War II novel to listen to, but I also liked it enough to finish it. So I’m giving it three stars! Verdict: 3 stars What did you read or listen to last week?
