Sebi asks Dish TV to disclose December AGM results

[ad_1] The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has asked Dish TV to “immediately” disclose the results of its annual general meeting (AGM) held on December 30. According to an advisory by the market regulator, dated February 9, there has already been a 37-day delay in disclosing the results of the AGM. Sebi has viewed non-disclosure of the results “seriously” and said continuing it would result in initiation of “appropriate enforcement action”. In spite of there being no prohibitory or restraint order from the court, the company has failed to disclose the voting results of the AGM held on December 30, 2021, Sebi said in the advisory letter to Dish TV. “As this action by the company ultimately affects the shareholders and the investors due to lack of information in the public domain, the company is once again called upon to disclose the voting results of the AGM held on December 30, 2021…,” the letter, a copy which was sent to the BSE by Dish TV India, said. As the market shifts to purchase, LOs get creative

[ad_1] Maryland has over a dozen Eastern European stores that sell products like caviar, pumpernickel bread and salo, a Ukrainian-style bacon. Apart from selling produce that is popular in former Soviet countries, these stores represent a marketing opportunity for Alex Naumovych, a loan officer at Draper and Kramer Mortgage Corporation. Just before a customer buys a container of pre-made Borscht, they see Naumovych’s business cards and flyers that lay neatly near the checkout area. This advertising strategy, among a handful of others, has helped the LO connect with Russian-speaking Realtors and win the business of borrowers from former Soviet countries. “I have my business cards everywhere because the more people that see your cards and face, the better,” Naumovych said. “Borrowers have called me from seeing my advertising in the stores and a couple of Realtors, too.” According to the Mortgage Bankers Association’s yearly forecast, purchase mortgage originations are expected to grow by 9% to $1.73 trillion in 2022, while refinance origination will dip by 62% to $860 billion from $2.26 trillion in 2021. The reasons for the dip in refis this year, the trade group said, will stem from higher mortgage rates –which have already eclipsed 4%, faster than the projections— and fewer eligible homeowners. With the market shift, LOs whose businesses were mainly driven by refinances in 2020 and 2021, must quickly shift gears and figure out ways to bring in purchase leads. LOs interviewed by HousingWire say that they have actively ramped up their attempts to connect with prospective borrowers and real estate agents. Some LOs are making inroads with potential clients through use of social media, leaning on their multilingual skills and doing old fashioned cold calling. Meanwhile, others worry that they will soon wash out of the industry. TikTok, Facebook and LinkedIn Christian Hernandez, vice president of mortgage lending at Guaranteed Rate, has leaned heavily on social media platforms to generate new leads and build relationships with borrowers and real estate agents. In a TikTok video with “Call Me Maybe” playing in the background, Hernandez, who’s based out of Arizona, includes subtitles that have her contact information instructing borrowers to reach out to her. The mortgage-related content that she makes on her TikTok is then uploaded to her LinkedIn and Facebook profile. Hernandez said that about 30% of her leads flow in from her social media outreach. “I actively use social media and I have built my brand this way,” Hernandez said. “Once I saw how easy it was to generate content through TikTok and use voice-overs and music, I started connecting with people on an emotional level.” She added, “The mortgage process can be very intimidating for people and especially right now, there is so much competition. But by putting myself out there and connecting my face to the name and showing borrowers that there is an actual human being with emotions that has had an impact on my business. The power of being multilingual Naumovych in an interview with HousingWire said that he uses his connections to the Eastern European diaspora and his knowledge of the Ukrainian and Russian language to generate new leads. The LO markets himself at Ukrainian-owned businesses, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and at Ukrainian festivals, which happen every year in Silver Spring, MD.   “I have my own booth at the festival,” said Naumovych. “During the festival last year, 40 people gave me their contact information and I’ve been in touch with them. The pastor of the Ukrainian church is currently looking to buy a house and I’m working on his pre approval.” Fahad Janvekar, an LO at Fairway Independent Mortgage, speaks Hindi and Urdu and relies on a “fixer” in his community to connect him with prospective borrowers. “This guy is a fixer, and he fixes people’s problems, whatever they are,” said Janvekar. “He’s great at recalling people and he directs me to talk to people that may be looking for a mortgage in the community.”  Hernandez, who speaks fluent Spanish, also said that she uses her multilingual capabilities to connect with more borrowers. However, she noted that she doesn’t limit her outreach to only the Hispanic diaspora and wants to be inclusive. Finding business the traditional way And though there are many creative avenues to get purchase business, cold calling and appearing at open houses to connect with real estate agents is here to stay, LOs told HousingWire. A sales manager, who requested anonymity, said that he helps newbie LOs by reviewing their strategies to pull in business at open houses. Additionally, he said that he helps his LOs clean up their social media pages and sets up plans for them to be more active in marketing themselves.  “There’s a million places you can get business,whether it’s social media, online networking in person networking, realtors, financial planners, it’s finding, where you haven’t explored yet,” said the manager. Janvekar on the other hand, who has been an LO for over a year, reaches out to human resource personnel and benefits managers at mid-tiered companies that don’t have “a full-fledged relocation set-up.” “I’m getting on their radar and consistently communicating with them and introducing myself,” Janvekar said. “My strategy is different and it’s a slow burn strategy.” Janvekar hopes to see the fruit of his labor come to fruition in the spring and summertime when borrowers are most likely to move. However, some newcomers to the industry haven’t been lucky in growing their book of business. What are First-Time Homebuyer Programs?

[ad_1] If you’re a first-time homebuyer, you may be feeling shut out of the market in the current fast-rising house price environment. But precisely because you are a first-time homebuyer, there may be help on the horizon. Major lenders, local governments and non-profit organizations commonly offer first-time homebuyer programs to help you purchase a home. You may be able to get a first-time homebuyer program that provides the loan to purchase the home, the down payment, or even a combination of both. More than anything, it’s a matter of knowing what the programs are, and where to find them. And don’t worry if you’re not technically a first-time homebuyer. First-time homebuyer programs have a very generous definition of what qualifies as a first-time homebuyer. If you haven’t owned a home in the last few years, it’s likely you’ll qualify for most programs. What are First-Time Homebuyer Programs? First-time homebuyer programs recognize the greater challenges first-time homebuyers have, compared with those who either currently own a home and are trading up, or have at least owned a home in the past. Though some first-time homebuyer programs are offered as first mortgages, many more provide down payment assistance. That assistance recognizes the special difficulty first-time homebuyers have in coming up with the down payment to make that first home purchase. Though down payment is an issue in most markets, it could be especially problematic in high-cost areas. Just coming up with a down payment of 5% on a $500,000 home in a high-cost market means a first-time buyer would need to save $25,000. Given that many first-time homebuyers are in the low- to moderate-income range, saving that much money can take several years. While the buyer is saving the money needed, property values may continue to escalate, further increasing the amount of the down payment needed. That can lock the buyer into a Catch-22 situation of always being behind the amount of cash needed to make the down payment. First-time home buyer programs are available to help buyers overcome that dilemma. Common First-Time Homebuyer Program Requirements If you’re interested in a first-time home buyer program, you should know that there are requirements you’ll need to meet. First, a common requirement is that you cannot have owned a home within the previous three years. Under this definition, you won’t be excluded from a first-time homebuyer program even if you have owned a home in the past. As long as the ownership did not take place within three years before purchasing a new home, you can still qualify. Another very common restriction is income limitation. First-time homebuyer programs will generally limit your household income to a certain percentage of the median household income for the county where the home is being purchased. The program might put a ceiling of 150% of the median income for the county. If the median household income in the county is $80,000, the maximum income to qualify will be $120,000. As an example, the screenshot below shows the income limits for participation under the California Housing Finance Agency (CalHFA) MyHome Assistance Program: Still another limitation is property type. In most cases, you’ll be limited to purchasing a single-family home, which typically will include condominiums and planned unit developments. Manufactured housing may be permitted, but only when it is built on a permanent foundation. In addition, the property must be owner-occupied by the purchaser as a primary residence. Finally, there’s usually a homebuyer education requirement. Because the programs are designed for first-time homebuyers, the education requirement is imposed to make sure that would-be homeowners fully understand the financial implications of the transaction they are about to enter. Typically, homebuyer education will be provided by government agencies or nonprofit organizations. You must earn a certificate of completion in the course to be eligible for the first-time homebuyer program. How Many Types of First-Time Homebuyer Programs are There? As mentioned at the beginning of this article, first-time homebuyer programs are available for purchase money mortgages, down payment assistance, or even a combination of both. First-time Homebuyer Mortgage Programs These are typically low-down payment loan programs. However, they’re not necessarily designed specifically for first-time homebuyers. For example, VA loans are designed specifically for veterans, and generally provide 100% financing. That eliminates the down payment requirement, which is the primary purpose of first-time homebuyer down payment assistance programs. VA loans also tend to be more consumer-friendly for veterans. For example, VA loans tend to be more lenient with credit than conventional mortgages. FHA mortgages are similar, except they do require a down payment of 3.5% of the purchase price. However, down payment assistance programs are often provided in conjunction with FHA mortgages, resulting in zero-down payment. This is especially true with down payment assistance programs provided by local governments. Meanwhile, FHA is more flexible in evaluating your credit than conventional mortgages are. Not to be outdone, conventional mortgages also offer advantageous first-time homebuyer loan programs. For example, the Federal National Mortgage Association (FNMA), commonly known as “Fannie Mae”, offers their HomePath program. The program provides homebuyers with exclusive access to repossessed properties before they are made available to investors. That will give homebuyers an opportunity to purchase these properties at a lower price than might be the case in an open bidding situation. In addition, buyers are able to purchase these homes with a down payment of just 3% of the purchase price. In addition, Fannie Mae offers the ability for homebuyers to purchase homes with up to 105% of the value of the property by using a subordinate lien in conjunction with the first mortgage. The lien must be an eligible Community Seconds loan. In yet another benefit of the program, Fannie Mae reduces the cost of the private mortgage insurance required for the first mortgage. Balaji Telefilms reports net loss of Rs 26.4 crore in Q3FY22

[ad_1] Balaji Telefilms has reduced its net loss at a consolidated level to Rs 26.4 crore in the third quarter (Q3) of financial year (FY22) as against a loss of Rs 31.7 crore in the same quarter last year. In Q2FY22, it had reported a net loss of Rs 39.4 crore. In addition, the company’s total income from operations has declined to Rs 76.2 crore in Q3FY22 from 105.5 crore in Q3FY21.The company’s EBIDTA loss also narrowed to Rs 21.3 crore from RS 24 crore in same quarter previous year. Its cost of production came down to Rs 71.1 crore from Rs 86.3 crore in the same quarter of FY21. Moreover, the company’s marketing and distribution has seen a sharp decline from Rs 19.1 crore in Q3FY21 to Rs 3.9 crore for Q3FY22. As per an official statement, Balaji Telefilms’ digital arm ALTBalaji sold 3.48 million subscriptions in the three quarters of FY22. The over-the-top (OTT) platform’s direct subscription revenues have increased to Rs 45 crore for the three quarters of FY22, compare to Rs 36 crore in the same period a year ago. ALTBalaji continues to drive growth on the back of content, innovative marketing and affordable pricing, the company said in a statement. The platform will remain focused on minimising consumer churn in the competitive market.Meanwhile, the television business returned to more normal production with 618 hours of content produced in the nine months of FY22. Hourly realisations remain muted at Rs 26 lakhs per hour, while it is expected to remain soft as broadcasters continue to assess the pandemic impact. In the movie business segment, Balaji Telefilms is currently working on five projects. It is continuing to monitor shooting schedules and the availability of theatrical windows. However, the company is open to various monetisation opportunities for existing and future projects including direct to digital launches, it said in a statement. Making sense of the markets this week: February 13

[ad_1] Each week, Cut the Crap Investing founder Dale Roberts shares financial headlines and offers context for Canadian investors.  Earnings season continues, the halftime report Last year’s Q4 financial reporting seems to be the most “normal” earnings season we’ve had in the past two years, with companies beating earnings expectations by amounts similar to long-run averages. Corporate profitability remains strong. Here is the latest report card for Q4 results-to-date, courtesy of DataTrek: 76% of reporting S&P 500 companies beat Wall Street earnings estimates. That is in line with the 5-year average but below the 83% beat rate of the last year. The average earnings beat is 8.2% above consensus. That is below the 5-year (8.6%) and 1-year (15.7%) averages. 77% of reporting companies have beaten Wall Street revenue estimates. That is essentially in line with the 1-year average (78%) and well ahead of the 5-year average (68%). The average revenue beat is 2.8% above consensus. That is well above the 5-year average (1.5%) but below the 1-year average (3.5%). Here are a few stock highlights, I’ll share.  First, Disney (DIS) is bringing some of the magic back. Disney was up more than 8% after reporting on Wednesday February 8. Grit Capital provided me with this commentary via email:  Disney+ adds 9.2 million subscribers, that is greater than analyst estimates. • Goal is to release more than one new movie title every week • Sports will be important in streaming • Disney is testing live sports on their streaming service • Like Netflix, Disney+ may have pricing power  U.S. Park revenues are recovering, now just 3% below the all-time record set in 2019. On the conference call Disney said: • Even though the lowest-price ticket for its parks has not increased in three years,1/3 to 50% of Park goers upgraded to higher ticket packages New higher-priced tiers include its apps and services, including Disney Genie, Disney Genie+ and Lightning Lane • Historically 18-22% of US guests are international, which have not come back yet I have suggested in many of my columns that Disney would be a wonderful grand economic reopening stock. It’s such a fabulous company and brand. It might have room to run. A major risk is the pandemic of course. It’s the wildcard as are any future variants.  Canadian investors can look to the Harvest Travel and Leisure ETF (TRVL) if they want broad exposure to the “let’s go and play” stocks and sectors. It holds hotels, casinos, cruise lines and airlines. Is it set to take off? You might also consider the parks such as Disney and Six Flags (SIX).  If your portfolio is tired of COVID-19, I’ve found some some fun options you can add.  Toromont (TIH) delivered strong earnings. This company has a 31-year dividend growth streak. Toromont raised the dividend by 11%. The stock is not cheap, though, by any means.  Manulife Financial (MFC) reported 4Q core earnings that beat analysts’ expectations, as new businesses and wealth and asset management profit growth helped offset declines in Canada and the United States.  $SLF with another great performance. 4th quarter net income of 1.08 Billion YOY increase of 44.89%. EPS of $1.53 YOY growth of 4%. Slightly up by 0.50% in after hours trading.https://t.co/sRmlMuveHH — Brian Harrigan (@labourtoleisure) February 10, 2022 Telus (T) may be considered a “boring” telco with a very nice entrepreneurial growth kicker, but it beat on earnings and revenue. It increased year-over-year revenues by 20%.  Enbridge (ENB) delivered another very solid quarter. Many hold this pipeline stock for its big, juicy dividend. Plus, oil and gas companies continue to be free cash-flow gushers.  While U.S. stocks are still struggling in 2022, Canadian stocks are getting close to their all-time high set in November 2021.  Source: Google  I am (happily) long on Telus and Enbridge.  Inflation in the U.S: Up, up and away  We had a very important inflation reading in the U.S. on Thursday. It will be the inflation numbers that drive the actions of the Fed, and in turn that will move the stock and bond markets. From CNBC, inflation surges to 7.5% on an annual basis, even more than expected and the highest since 1982.  It was the biggest inflation reading since February 1982. Ironically, one of the top songs at that time was “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)” by Daryl Hall & John Oates. And the markets said “no can do” after the release of the February 2022 inflation reading.  Source: Seeking Alpha. S&P 500 February 10 after inflation reading  We saw elevated prices across many different types of products and services. Big bursts of higher prices were seen in some categories such as energy, food and housing. CNBC reports on this:  “With another surprise jump in inflation in January, markets continue to be concerned about an aggressive Fed,” said Barry Gilbert, asset allocation strategist at LPL Financial. “While things may start getting better from here, market anxiety about potential Fed overtightening won’t go away until there are clear signs inflation is coming under control.”  And corporate America can’t stop talking about inflation either. In fact, words like “supply chains, “logistics” and “inflation” appeared on 71% of Q4 earnings calls, up from 39.2% from the prior year.  Inflation has certainly turned out to be transitory for longer.  CNBC quotes senior U.S. economist Andrew Hunter at Capital Economics as saying: “While we still expect more favorable base effects and a partial easing of supply shortages to push core inflation lower this year, this suggests it will remain well above the Fed’s target for some time,” he added. Some market makers are betting that the Fed will raise rates by 50 basis points in March 2022 to try and quickly help stem inflation.
