At 14.55%, WPI inflation spikes to 4-month high in March

[ad_1] Wholesale price inflation hit a four-month peak of 14.55% in March, mirroring a broad-based spike in global commodity prices, especially of oil, in the wake of the Ukraine crisis, showed official data released on Monday. With this, inflation, based on the wholesale price index (WPI), scaled a 30-year peak of 12.96% in FY22, driven by an unfavourable base (it was only 1.3% in FY21) on top of the commodity rally. The price pressure at the wholesale level far outweighs a rise in retail inflation, which, too, hit a 17-month peak of 6.95% in March, having breached the upper band of the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI’s) target of 2-6% for a third straight month. Most analysts expect the RBI to start rate hike cycle in June when the monetary policy will be reviewed next. Given that the WPI is dominated by raw materials and intermediate goods, the sustained rise in the index spells trouble for corporate India and reinforces its struggle to cope with rising input costs at a time when its ability to pass on the soaring costs to consumers has been impaired by a fragile demand recovery. Unsurprisingly, WPI inflation in crude petroleum surged to 69.20% in March and price pressure in the fuel and power segment — comprising petrol, diesel and  LPG — jumped to 34.52%, way above the headline inflation. The divergence between WPI and Consumer Price Index that gauges retail inflation is mainly due to the composition of the two price gauges; food items make up as much as 46% of the CPI. Importantly, while WPI food inflation inched down a tad to 8.06% in March from 8.19% in the previous month, core inflation spiked to 10.9% from 10%, having remained sticky for a year now. Within the manufactured products segment, edible oils, which are mostly imported, jumped to 16.06% in March from 14.90% in the previous month. Economists at India Ratings flagged the broad-based rise in WPI inflation in March and expect it to remain in high-single digit in FY23, despite a high base kicking in from April 2022. Aditi Nayar, chief economist at Icra, said, “We remained concerned that even a normal monsoon may not be enough to douse the retail prices of those items that are pushing up food inflation, such as edible oils.” Nayar expected WPI inflation to remain in the range of 13.5-15% in April, partly depending on where crude oil prices settle in the rest of this month and how much petrol and diesel prices are revised further. Valued Opinions is a rewards site offering e-gift cards in exchange for participating in easy and non-invasive surveys, ad reviews, and product tests. Surveys range from cultural opinions to views on products, electronics, and household items. The range of surveys is very diverse, making the site useful for consumers of all demographics, from teens to Boomers and beyond.  Is Valued Opinions legit? More than 3 million global users access Valued Opinions on a regular basis, making it a trustworthy and reputable survey site. Get Started With Valued Opinions Valued Opinions Features Support for multiple languages Want to take surveys in a language other than English?  Valued Opinions has you covered, offering panels in more than fifteen languages.  Personalized surveys  Valued Opinions requires you to build a profile and share personal information like your political beliefs, health conditions, entertainment preferences, and cultural affiliations.  The site asks for feedback across twenty categories. By filling out this section, you can receive surveys that match your interests and personality.  Quick panels Some survey sites are notorious for making participants sit through long questionnaires that take an hour or longer to complete. This isn’t the case with Valued Opinions.  Surveys are short, taking only fifteen to twenty minutes. This means you can quickly access a survey panel, run through the questions, and move on to other money-making opportunities. Ad reviews Companies put a lot of time and research into targeted ads in order to make promotions that resonate with customers. Now you can be part of the process with Valued Opinions by providing feedback on ads for products that match your lifestyle.  Product tests  There’s nothing better than getting free items in the mail. With Valued Opinions, you can occasionally receive products to test and enjoy.  Items may include food, beauty products, household products, electronics, clothes, and accessories, to name a few examples.  These products correlate with your interests, which is why it’s important to provide accurate information when filling out your profile. For example, you may not want to receive household items if you’re mainly into electronics.  Charity opportunities  The company donates $10,000 of its profits to the American Red Cross every month. So participating in their events indirectly supports a great cause. It’s a win-win. Membership program Valued Opinions offers a tiered membership program where you can collect badges for participating in research opportunities. The categories include Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond.  Reaching Platinum and Diamond status will make you a preferred participant, giving you access to the best surveys and products.  Valued Opinions Rewards  Survey rewards range in value from $1 to $5. You can see how much each one is worth before participating. So if you decide that a survey isn’t worth your time, you can easily avoid it.  The site pays immediately after completing a task. But the cash won’t transfer automatically into your bank account. Once you rack up $10 in your account, you can browse different rewards.  The site offers a variety of options for converting points into a reward. For example, you can receive a gift card for leading retailers like Amazon, Target, iTunes, and the Home Depot. You can also convert points into airline miles, cash out for a restaurant voucher, and collect prepaid Visa debit cards. On top of this, the company also offers sweepstakes that you can enter.  Unfortunately, the site does not work with PayPal, so you can’t access liquid capital from your earnings. As a workaround, you can sell your gift card on a third-party site like Raise and CardCash These types of sites will take a cut of the profits, but you can still convert a gift card into cash.  You may even be able to get a full return by selling your cards to friends. For example, you may have a friend looking for an excuse to shop at Macy’s or Amazon who is willing to offer cash in exchange for a gift card to help you out and put money in your pocket. Signing Up and Getting Started Signing up for Valued Opinions is fast and easy. Chances are you’ll be able to get up and running in a matter of minutes on this great rewards site. Valued Opinions isn’t overly restrictive. But the site does have some basic requirements that you have to meet in order to participate in paid opportunities.  For example, you have to be at least 17 years old, a U.S. resident, and have a working email address. Keep in mind that you may have trouble signing up if the company’s security system blocks your IP address or internet domain. If this happens, try registering from a different email address or device and see if that works. Otherwise, contact customer support. Beyond that, Valued Opinions may contact you with a short questionnaire to determine eligibility for a particular research project. For example, the company may ask if you consume dairy products or watch television. How do you receive surveys from Valued Opinions? Valued Opinions will notify you when a new survey opportunity arises. In other words, you won’t have to worry about staying logged into their website. Instead, you’ll receive survey invitations via email. In addition, surveys are available through a dashboard feature within the Valued Opinions web

Covid-19 in Delhi: DDMA meeting on Wednesday, likely to discuss mandatory use of masks

[ad_1] A crucial meeting of DDMA on Wednesday is likely to discuss mandatory use of face masks and hybrid mode of offline and online teaching for school children, in view of rising number of infections in past many days, official sources said. The meeting of Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) chaired by Lt Governor Anil Baijal, will review the COVID situation in the national capital, as per notice of the meeting. The use of masks by people in Delhi has “considerably” gone down after fine of Rs 500 was withdrawn by the DDMA earlier this month. This is not an ideal situation in view of rising number of infections, said a senior government officer. “In view of the UP government today making it compulsory for residents of six National Capital Region (NCR) cities of the state, the mandatory mask use in Delhi is most likely to be discussed with reimposing fines for its strict implementation during the meeting,” said the officer. The Uttar Pradesh government on Monday made it compulsory for people to wear a face mask in public places in capital Lucknow and six NCR districts including Noida and Ghaziabad, amid a rise in Covid cases in some adjoining states, an official said. The DDMA meeting could also discuss giving option of offline and online mode of teaching at schools, in view of reports of children being affected by the infection, sources said. Schools across Delhi-NCR have sprung into action following a spike in Covid cases and are taking various measures, including frequent sanitisation, to restrict the spread of the virus to a minimum and thus avoid shutdown of the campus. The Haryana education department has directed schools in the state not to make it mandatory for students to attend physical classes at a time when scores of students and staff in institutes across NCR cities have been diagnosed with COVID-19. The number of school students testing positive has been on the rise in the city, raising concerns among parents. The Delhi government has told school authorities to close specific wings or classrooms wherever any student or teacher is found infected. Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain earlier on the day said though the number of COVID-19 cases is rising in the national capital, it is not an alarming situation as the rate of hospitalisation is low. He said the government is keeping a watch on the situation. He also underlined that it is necessary to wear face masks, even though the fine for not doing so had been withdrawn. “The number of positive cases has been rising in Delhi. But we have carried out 100 per cent vaccination and a large number of residents have already been infected with the (corona) virus. Also, there are not a lot of hospitalisations. So, it is not an alarming situation. We are keeping a watch on the situation,” Jain said in a briefing. When asked about the increasing number of COVID-19 cases among children, the minister said the Delhi government has already issued an advisory asking schools to close specific classes for a few days if any student or teacher tests positive for the coronavirus. Delhi had on Sunday recorded 517 COVID-19 cases, 56 more than the previous day, with a positivity rate of 4.21 per cent. [ad_2] Source link
