[ad_1] All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), Ministry of Education (MoE) and Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) have joined hands to launch a joint initiative ‘ABCDEFGHI’ – a free of cost skilling, upskilling and reskilling platform. “The initiative aims to provide future-ready technical and digital skills on emerging technologies to one crore Indians,” Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairperson, AICTE told FE Education Online. According to him, the platform will bring companies from all sectors under a common roof and help fill the skilled workforce gap in the country  The ABCDEFGHI platform will be launched on June 6, 2022 at 3:30 pm by Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Education Minister and Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. AICTE claims to have identified 30 emerging technologies, 55 job roles and 155 skill sets which it claims will be in demand in the next 20 to 30 years. “With 50% of the Indian population below 25 years, a huge opportunity for youth and young professionals awaits to form the foundation of the country’s economy. The facts we have gathered highlight that it is necessary to handle the challenge of the skill gap in emerging technologies by digitally skilling our youth,” Sahasrabudhe added. The platform will offer courses on new-age technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and Information and Communications Technology (ICT), among others, along with internship and apprenticeship opportunities from market leaders. So far, 63 companies, including Google, Microsoft, Amazon Web Service (AWS), International Business Machines (IBM) among others, have already confirmed their participation in this initiative. “We expect more than 200 companies to join hands with us in an effort to offer training programmes across categories,” Chandrasekhar Buddha, chief coordinating officer, AICTE, said. Furthermore, the three- to six-month-long courses will cater to school students between seven to 12 grade, undergraduates and graduates or professionals. As per the body, the course curriculums are designed keeping in mind the three categories of learners – basic level for school students, advanced and expert level for the rest. [ad_1] The government may announce higher-than-usual increases in minimum support prices (MSP) for the summer-sown crops in 2022-23 year soon, taking into consideration a sharp rise in costs of farming inputs. The MSP increases this year could roughly be in the range of 5-20%, the highest since 2018-19 when a new policy of 50% profits over computed cost of production led to MSP hikes for kharif crops in the range of 4.1-28.1%. In the last three years, MSP increases were roughly in the 1-5% range. According to sources, the sharpest MSP hikes this year have been recommended by the Commission of Agriculture Costs and Prices for oilseeds like soyabean and groundnut. Among pulses, tur and moong may also see steep hikes in support prices, as the imports of these items rose last year amid a domestic supply crunch. The government also reckons that higher domestic production of other oilseeds will help reduce palm oil imports. While elevated MSPs, backed by procurement, could potentially boost rural income and purchasing power, these can also increase inflationary pressures further. Wholesale inflation in April rose to 15.08%, highest in at least 17 years. Food inflation came in above the overall retail price inflation for April and May, 2022. It was 8.1% in April, while the CPI inflation was 7.79%. The cost of production for MSP will be include all paid-out costs directly incurred by the farmer — in cash and kind — on seeds, fertilisers, pesticides, hired labour, leased-in land, fuel and irrigation and an imputed value of unpaid family labour. “Rise in MSPs of commodities such as oilseeds, pulses and nutri-cereals (jowar, bajra and ragi) and cotton is expected to be higher than for paddy,” a source said, adding that the idea is encourage farmers to reduce cultivation of water-intensive crops and aid crop diversification. “Our focus is to realign the MSPs in favour of oilseeds, pulses and coarse cereals to encourage farmers to shift to these crops, which are environmentally sustainable and thereby reduce the country’s dependence on imports,” an official said. India imports about 55-56% of its total domestic requirement of edible oil while 15% of pulses consumption is met through imports. In race to get on top of rising food inflation, the government recently allowed tariff-free imports of crude soyabean and sunflower oils during this financial year and the next. The tax waiver is also subject to an annual cap of 2 million tonne for each , which will more than suffice to meet the needs of domestic refiners and ease supplies in the domestic market. A waiver of basic customs duty for the two edible oils, which together account for a quarter of India’s edible oil imports, was extended till FY24-end, and a residual 5% agriculture infrastructure development cess on the two crude edible oils was removed. On July 1, the Food Corporation of India is expected to have a rice stock of around 29 to 30 million tonne (MT) excluding around 17 MT of grain receivable from millers against the buffer norm of 13.5 MT. “With cost of production rising in the last one year, the hike in MSP for kharif crops has to be substantial so that government meets its commitment of providing 50% more than cost of production to farmers,” Ashok Gulati, former chairman, Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices and chair professor (agriculture), India Council for Research in International Economic Relations told FE. Prices of farming inputs like electricity, transporarion and pesticides have seen big increases. Though prices of fertilisers and key fertiliser inputs also increased in the global market, a sharp increase in subsidies by the government will give farmers largely immune to the cost increases. The government’s food subsidy expenses are expected to rise further from budgeted Rs 2.06 trillion for 2022-23. The government has decided to absorb a substantial part of the rise in fertiliser prices and subsidies are expected to touch Rs 2.15 trillion in 2022-23 against Rs 1.62 trillion in 2021-22 mainly because of spike in global prices of phosphatic and potassic (P&K) fertilisers and urea in last one year. “Thrust of the MSP regime should be to increase oilseeds and pulses production so that import dependence is reduced and farmers’ income get a boost,” P K Joshi, former director (South Asia), International Food Policy Research Institute, said. While FCI procures rice during October-September period from grain surplus states of Punjab, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for meeting public distribution system (PDS) requirement, the farmer cooperative Nafed procures oilseeds and pulses when prices go below MSP. [ad_1] Farm to consumer, or F2C as it is known today, is essentially a direct channel between farmers and the end consumers, which helps eliminate supply chain inefficiencies while guaranteeing better pricing to both parties. With healthy living and wellness becoming an integral part of the urban lifestyle, transparency of processes and traceability of food have become key concerns for consumers. This change in consumer preference, especially on account of Covid-19, is driving the rise of F2C agritech startups in India. Additionally, with the application of new-age technologies and digitisation, the F2C segment has gained attention from prominent investors in India, boosting its growth prospects further. “India has always boasted premium quality products but achieving scale was a daunting task given our expensive and unreliable distribution systems. The aggressive spread of low-cost internet fuelled the growth of community building avenues and began giving local producers better visibility,” says Subhadeep Sanyal, partner at Omnivore, an impact venture capital firm. “It also magnified the myriad issues in the supply chain. Today, various F2C brands are eliminating these inefficiencies, making it a win-win scenario for both farmers and consumers,” he adds. Take for instance, Deep Rooted, launched by Clover Ventures, a greenhouse agritech startup. Founded in 2018, the startup works with about 60 small-scale farmers with landholdings of more than 70 acres around Bengaluru and Hyderabad. It started as a B2B supply chain for perishables and assisted small and marginal farmers in producing high-quality perishable crops. During the pandemic the startup pivoted to an F2C avatar, Deep Rooted. The D2C fruits and vegetables brand is founded on three pillars: fresh, clean, and community. It delivers fresh produce in under 24 hours from farms less than 150 km away from urban centres. Says Avinash BR, co-founder at Clover Ventures: “With consumers valuing high-quality produce, we witnessed steep demand for perishables from consumers residing in housing societies during lockdowns. This saw our portfolio of products being doubled as compared to the pre-Covid level. We envisage building India’s first fresh produce supply chain that’s adapted to the challenge of climate change.” Then, there is Farmley, a direct-from-farm brand delivering, what are billed as, the freshest and cleanest dry fruits, to the world. “Sourced directly from farms, we at Farmley make available nuts and dry fruits that have been passed on to us through generations,” says Akash Sharma, co-founder & CEO at Farmley. Sourcing products at fair value prices, Farmley has increased farmers’ incomes severalfold, built a fast-growing community-driven brand, and delivered premium quality nuts and dry fruits to consumers who value both health and taste. The F2C phenomenon is not confined to fruits and vegetables alone. A case in point is ReshaMandi, said to be India’s first and largest B2B marketplace digitising the natural fibre supply chain. “Our larger purpose at ReshaMandi is to create value for all our stakeholders even as we provide sustainable solutions,” says Mayank Tiwari, its founder & CEO. “Early this year, we diversified into the D2C space through our platform ReshaWeaves, wherein we aim to bring exquisite sarees made of natural fabrics to our consumers at disruptive prices.” He adds: “We want to create a value-added natural fibres supply chain that will transform the industry.” ReshaMandi also provides value-added services such as quality testing, technical advisories, high-quality inputs, and market linkages. [ad_1] In the middle of May, I went in for what I thought was just a routine weekly ultrasound, but there were some significant concerns about the baby’s movements/activity. Within an hour, they were prepping me for the very real possibility of a c-section that day. (Starting steroid shots, no eating/drinking, admitting me to the hospital, etc.) I was by myself and it felt very surreal. So many things to process all at once. So many details to try to work out. And so much concern for our sweet baby. This whole pregnancy has been a real test of faith and endurance for me. There have been many unexpected bumps in the road. Many things I’ve never experienced (so much bleeding and spotting, so much more nausea, low-lying placenta, the possibility of placenta previa, transverse baby, fibroids, etc.). Over and over again, I’ve had to stop and release my desire for control and my need to have a plan. It’s required me to continually open up my hands and say, “God, help me to trust You and walk by faith — even though there is so much uncertainty for what the future holds.” By the grace of God (and many answers to prayer!), baby started moving much more normally and after 24 hours of monitoring + a lot more testing, I got to go home from the hospital to keep the baby inside for a few more weeks. (My OB and specialist believe baby was just in a really deep sleep cycle during the initial ultrasound but we are monitoring and testing very closely to make sure baby continues to move/act normally and not in distress). I don’t know what the future holds for this pregnancy. Our goal is for me to make it to my scheduled induction at 39 weeks (just two more weeks!). But I’m just living one day, one week at a time right now — seeking to make the most of it, continuing to release my desire for control to the One Who knows the end from the beginning. We never know what a day might hold, but I’m grateful to know the One Who holds the whole world in His hands.
