Lok Sabha, Assembly Byelections 2022 Live: YSR Congress leads in Atmakur, AAP trails in Sangrur

[ad_1] Lok Sabha, Assembly Bypoll Results 2022 Live Updates: The fate of Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha among others hangs in balance while Uttar Pradesh will witness a prestige battle with the ruling BJP eyeing both Samajwadi Party strongholds — Rampur and Azamgarh — as the results for as the counting for three Lok Sabha and seven assembly seats across five states and Delhi will be declared today. The highest number of seats that are going to the bypolls are from Tripura — Agartala, Jubarajnagar, Surma and Town Bardowali. Town Bardowali holds key as Chief Minister Manik Saha, who is fighting his first ever direct election, is up against Congress’ Ashish Kumar Saha, who will be eyeing to win back the seat that fell vacant after he had defected to Congress from BJP last year. The Atmakur constituency will go to bypolls on June 23 after the death of Commerce and Information Technology minister and YSR Congress MLA Mekapati Goutham Reddy. The ruling YSR Congress has fielded the late minister’s younger brother Vikram Reddy against BJP’s G Bharat Kumar Yadav.  Delhi’s Rajinder Nagar fell vacant as AAP MLA Raghav Chadha got elected to the Rajya Sabha. The byelection in Jharkhand’s Mandar constituency is taking place after Congress legislator Bandhu Tirkey was disqualified due to his conviction in a corruption case. The party has fielded his daughter Shilpi Neha Tirkey against BJP’s Gangotri Kujur. [ad_2] Source link

For us, veganism isn’t just a trend: Chef Alain Ducasse

[ad_1] By Shubhangi Shah When legendary French chef Alain Ducasse visited India this month, his first trip to the country ever, questions were bound to be asked about his views on Indian cooking, restaurants and cuisine. Apart from the two countries’ long-standing history in spices, the multi-Michelin starred chef highlights another thing—India’s treatment of its vegetables. “We are inspired by how India treats vegetables and have used it at one of our restaurants, Spoon, in Paris,” he says. Environment consciousness features prominently in Ducasse’s culinary tradition. Sapid is a 95% plant-based restaurant he opened in Paris last year. To him, this is one area where he sees a wide range of possibilities and territories to explore. “We recently opened a restaurant, which is accessible to all, with 95% of vegetables and cereals and only 5% of animal protein, and it’s working,” he says. In fact, among the dominant food trends he sees for the future is the “consciousness of how we treat our planet, how we source our ingredients. Nobody can evade that. Every chef, as well as customer, needs to take this (environmental consciousness) into account while going to a restaurant, a supermarket”. According to him, this includes “less animal protein, more cereals and vegetables and sustainable fishing”. Veganism, in which a person refrains from eating meat and other animal products, is another green dietary practice that chef Ducasse has gone big on. “For us, being vegan isn’t just a trend. We had anticipated it a long time ago,” he says. Ducasse is among the frontrunners when it comes to vegetarian cuisine. He designed a vegetarian menu way back in 1996. Elaborating further, he mentions burgal, “not burger”, which is a vegan burger the chef created. It is being sold at one point in Paris starting this year, but he plans to sell it in other places too. Apart from environmental concerns, more and more people are considering food restrictions due to health reasons. Gluten and lactose allergies are affecting a large number of people, who are seeking alternatives. On how, as a chef, he adapts to such a scenario, Ducasse says, “We already had taken these into account from the beginning. For a long time, we have known how to cook without gluten, how to cook vegetables and vegetables only, and respect religious traditions.” ‘A bad review is never as bad’ Ducasse is among the greatest in the culinary field, with not one or two, but 21 Michelin stars, the highest in the world, to his name. On whether he reads reviews of his restaurants, the chef humbly replies, “A good review is never as good as you read, and a bad review isn’t as bad as you read.” The chef was in town this month to inaugurate his Ecole Ducasse campus, India’s first, at the Indian School of Hospitality in Gurugram. Ecole Ducasse is a network of culinary schools that he founded in 1999 to impart training on French culinary skills and techniques. It has campuses in Paris, the Philippines, Brazil, Thailand and India. “The biggest culinary education challenge is to keep in mind that we are training the chefs of tomorrow. So we need to hear about their aspirations and expectations for tomorrow to be able to train them for it,” he says, adding: “Not just that, we also train the future managers, who will also be in charge of paying tribute to Earth and being conscious of how they use the resources of the planet. It is a strong part of our training course.” Speaking on technique and creativity and what role education plays here, he says, “Creativity and innovation are personal. But everything really begins with mastering cooking, its technique.” About what his Ecole Ducasse campus offers to students in India, he said it will provide them with the tools, techniques and fundamentals to build their own cuisines. “It’s about you being able to use all these cooking lessons to then use them on your own cuisine and recipes,” he adds. Stage is set: META back on ground after two virtual editions

[ad_1] Hope amid despair, freedom over slavery, some of the plays to be staged in this year’s edition of Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META) are gripping and inspiring. But what is equally promising is the fact that the dedicated platform for Indian theatre is back on the ground after two virtual editions amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Once again, META is set to give voice to diverse themes ranging from contemporary and pressing social issues to mythology, religion, gender, caste, politics and classics through its plays, as well as increase awareness and appreciation of Indian theatre. However, according to the organisers, there will be no awards ceremony this time around as was the tradition in the previous editions. Rather, META will stage four award-winning plays that were never publicly showcased before and will be celebrated during the festival. Theatre enthusiasts can watch a tale of hardships in a lower segment of society with abysmal standards of living in the play titled Ghoom Nei. However, the only saving grace that keeps the characters going through the ‘dark broken highway’ is a ‘bridge of light’, illuminated by hope and camaraderie. This, along with three other award-winning plays: For the Record, Bhaskara Pattelarum Thommiyude Jeevithavum and The Old Man, are going to be a part of the 17th edition of META to be held in the national capital from July 7 to 10. For the Record recreates the deliberations, the disputes and the drama of a chain of events that happened in 1971 when a tribunal was tasked with selecting three artefacts that represent India to the world. The play will be staged on July 7 from 7 pm onwards. Bhaskara Pattelarum Thommiyude Jeevithavum is a play based on the novelette, Bhaskara Pattelarum Entey Jeevithavum, by Malayalam writer Paul Zacharia. It is a story of freedom from slavery. It will be staged on July 8, 7 pm onwards. Similarly, The Old Man, a story of undying hope, and Ghoom Nei will be staged on July 9 and 10, respectively, 7 pm onwards. The world of arts has recovered from the pandemic and is back on its feet. However, the two years of confinement proved to be detrimental to a number of artistes around the world in more ways than one, it impacted their mental health and creative process and robbed them of an audience and visibility. Theatre, too, had its own ups and downs. Some accepted and loved the theatre’s virtual debut while others felt it lacked the experience of a live performance. Virtual way forward Talking about the theatre’s virtual debut during the pandemic, Jay Shah, vice president, head, cultural outreach, Mahindra & Mahindra, says, “The live action theatre sector has seen a paradigm shift due to the pandemic. The artistes found a refuge in the virtual space allowing them to continue their creative journey and sustain the dialogue with the audience.” Be it virtual or physical, says Shah, both the spaces come with different experiences. The virtual space allows one to consume content from their comfort zones while the traditional stage brings in the live interaction between the actors and the audience. Shah, however, adds that the demand for live experiences will continue. In the last two years, the content industry has also seen a large-scale shift to OTT platforms. When asked if that’s a possibility for theatre as well, Shah says that in India, the entertainment industry is rapidly changing and with the introduction of OTT and other virtual platforms the demand for content is at an all-time high. He doesn’t rule out the possibility of theatre on OTT. “With the success of META’s online avatar, we can surely look at OTT as a space for theatre,” he adds. Sanjoy Roy, managing director of Teamwork Arts, the producer of the festival, says META pivoted online in 2020 and 2021 and “built a new community even as we streamed a number of award-winning productions followed by talks and conversations around the many disciplines of theatre and the arts”. The 17th edition of Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META) will take place in Delhi’s Kamani Auditorium from July 7 to 10. Tickets can be booked at http://metawards.com/ [ad_2] Source link
